MIA PALENCIA

Singer songwriter, jazz crooner, voice actor, public speaker and occasionally a theatre personality, Mia Palencia is a woman of many talents. She kicked off her career as the other half of well-known local jazz act Double Take at the age of 14. With guitar extraordinaire Roger Wang leading the way, Double Take released two very well-received albums, gathering a substantial and loyal following within and without Malaysia. It was when she turned 17 that two pivotal changes took place, becoming the catalysts for many great things ahead: She bought her first guitar, and she moved to the big city. The first got her started on writing her own material; the second led her to meet and collaborate with great musicians who helped mould her musical tastes and vocal direction. Mia joined Groove Unction, a local jazz band led by legendary jazz guitarist, Jose Thomas. She learnt to swing. She learnt to jam. She learnt to scat.
